HERFORD`S OWN RYDER CUP (2002)

Golfers in Herford are to compete in their own Ryder-Cup format event writes Mandy Wilman.

It will be a Golf Challenge Weekend between German and British golfers to raise funds for the German flood reliefe appeal and a British charity for the prevention of cruelity to children.
Sgt. David Doughty and other British members of the local Golf Society have put together a team to challenge the German golfers who play at Golf Club Herford, a course actually located at near by Exter.
Sgt. Doughy said: „ We hope that this charity two-day-challenge will become an annual event, between our members and the local German players. The aim is to give ourselves a challenge whileraising funds for worthwhile charities.“
With local and national businesses supporting them, there are trophies to play for provided by the local computer firm Area 51 Computer and raffle prizes such as golf umbrellas from the local Mitsubishi dealer and a Saab convertible for a weekend.
The Challenge will take place over the weekend of September 28/29 with 39 players each paying €50 to take part. Following the lines of the famous golfing competition, Saturday´s play will be between groups of 4 players, and german teams who will play for each hole.
On Sunday the teams will all match play as single players, to compete for the trophies provides by Area 51 and the event will end in the evening where the raffle will be draw.
